Unique emporium opened in San Francisco specializing in sexually-oriented goods for the liberated consumer. Started by Basil Nickerson, a sandal maker, A Taste of Leather's reputation at first spread through word of mouth for the quality of its work. Under the guidance of Count von Terrible, A Taste of Leather quickly became San Francisco legend as the world's first and only Gay Department Store.
A Taste of Leather was originally located at 960 Folsom Street, it has moved in late 1982 to 336 Sixth Street in the heart of San Francisco active leather-bar district. The store was spread out over twenty five hundred square feet of floor space divided into seventeen different departments offering a full range of devices and clothing to please the most discriminating sexual tastes of the 1980's. From the most complete line of S&M devices to finely crafted leather goods, films, magazines and novelty items, they were all to be found at the fascinating A Taste of Leather store. Curteous personnel eagerly waited to answer your questions and serve your needs.
A Taste of Leather was purchased by Daralt in 1988, business moved to 1285 Folsom Street.
